AR x Web3 — The World of Unseen
Augmented Reality is a truly unexplored territory when looking at the web3 space. Here’s some of my thoughts:
As software and hardware become better, we start to see AR being implemented in new immersive ways. This ranges from traditional Social Media filters to full fledged products / SDK’s such as Niantic, Inc. ‘s Lightship.
Now my thought goes as follows: When we are looking in the web3 space we have seen some implementation being created in terms of Digital Fashion but I still presume not a lot of builders / creators want to tackle the challenge of combining UX from AR & Web3 to form a reliable product.
Nevertheless, there are some amazing companies which are working on just that. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Jadu is by far one of the leaders in the field. Enabling NFT holders to view and interact with their NFT’s in real-time.
Moreover, we have a first AR based NFT Marketplace: Anima.
Anima enables you to purchase Curated NFT’s tied to AR. Meaning you are able to view the pieces (Art, Fashion, Entertainment) in the physical worlds and one of their latest drops “Demsky” is a perfect example of this.
RTFKT studios is also exploring the Snapchat Filters for the CloneX holders. Enabling users to translate their virtual expression onto Zoom, MS-Teams and others. Previously we have seen RTFKT creating Try-On Wearables in AR but I have a feeling there is so much more to come.
Lastly we also have Treasure Chest AR. Their application allows holders to view and frame your NFT’s through AR in the physical space. Merging the digital worlds and art scene with the physical.
I truly see a tremendous potential in the bridge of AR and web3, from small campaigns to full-fledged products and experiences which define the new norms of the Metaverse.
As Alex Herrity from Anima stated: “The metaverse has been described as something we’ll live within. Augmented reality makes it something we live with.”
